Writer's Guidelines

Before submitting an article to InvestorGuide.com, please review the following guidelines to make sure that your articles are properly formatted and meet our quality requirements.

General Guidelines

We are looking for timeless, educational, non-commercial, polished, original content about financial or investment topics.

Timeless
All content should be relevant for at least five years, and should not be a commentary on recent headlines. While it is OK to use data from certain time periods in backing up what you are saying in your article, the focus of the article should be on what the data means rather than the time period itself, and should be written in a way that will not require it to be updated or modified in a year or two.

Educational
Each article should be informative and objective. Points should be backed up with hard data whenever appropriate. We prefer that the material present a subject from different angles in order to give a complete perspective. While writers may have personal opinions concerning a subject, we would rather the focus of the article not endorse specific opinions. Readers can form their own opinions from the objective information that you provide.

Non-commercial
The article may not endorse specific products or services.

Polished
It is important that the article be well-written, free of factual and grammatical errors.

Original
We are only interested in articles which you personally have written.

Before getting started with the writing, we encourage you to read some of the articles we've written, such as Stocks and Your Portfolio and Index Funds and ETFs.

The Submission Process

If you are interested in writing for InvestorGuide, please contact us via email. Make sure to include:
  • Name
  • Email address
  • Website (if you want this in your article)
  • Your article, either as an attachment or pasted into the body
Review
Once we receive your article we will review it to see if it fits in with the site and does not overlap current articles. To avoid writing duplicate material, you may want to look through the InvestorGuide University to make sure that your subject has not already been discussed.

Sending your finished article to us does not guarantee that it will be posted. If the article is incomplete, is missing information or falls short of the quality we require, we may ask you to review your article and submit it again. Be aware that we reserve the right to reject any submission for any reason. Keep in mind that all submissions have to be reviewed, and that citing sources for your information can help speed up the process.

Posting Your Article
We will post your articles soon after approval, and will send you an email to let you know. We're hoping to establish relationships with some great writers who will provide us with content on an ongoing basis, so if you're good, there's no limit to how many of your articles will appear on InvestorGuide.

Other Points

Format
The title and the first paragraph should make it clear who should read the article and what value they'll get from it.

Length
We are looking for articles approximately 600-1200 words in length.

Audience
The audience of InvestorGuide varies from beginning to advanced investors. In other words, you do not have to write your article specifically to a beginner’s level. Keep in mind, however, that you should let us know that the article is targeted to a more advanced audience upon submission. Writing to a more advanced audience may require you to link to other articles in InvestorGuide.com that explain some of the underlying concepts. By linking to underlying concepts you keep the flow of your article intact without having to go on tangents to explain basic concepts.

Linking
If you are linking to another article in InvestorGuide, make sure to explain why you are linking instead of just posting the link. This will allow the reader to understand what information can be found on the new page without having to click on the link to find out.

Images and Tables
If you would like to include any images or tables in your article to better convey your message, make sure to attach them to your submission email. Each image should be formatted as a .jpg file and should be properly labeled (stockgraph1.jpg, instead of image.jpg). Also, make sure to indicate where in your article the image is supposed to appear.

Sources
Make sure to indicate the source any time that you quote a person, financial publication (including financial statements) or other website. This will allow us to verify your information and post your article much faster than if we had to do the searching on our own. Please indicate the source’s name, publication or website and the date that it appeared.
